Shrine Pass Trail - Moderate
Begin your mountain bike adventure at the Vail Pass rest area. The Shrine Pass Route climbs gently for 2 miles then drops 9 miles to Red Cliff. A graded gravel road for 4 miles turns into a soil route with a variety of resting points. Don't miss The Mount of the Holy Cross off in the distance. For advanced riders there is a turn off after 3.25 miles to the Timber Creek and Lime Creek rides. Both are marked. Many bikers shuttle cars between Red Cliff to avoid a long return.
Wilder Gulch - Moderate
Begin the Wilder Gulch Trail one mile south of the Vail Pass rest area by riding down the paved bike path and heading west under the I-70 eastbound lanes. The old Wilder Trail reverts to singletrack at times, climbing up a willow-filled valley to a breathtaking viewpoint on Ptarmigan Pass with unsurpassed Colorado mountain views.
Colorado Trail to Searle Pass - Moderate to Advanced
This mountain biking trail offers some challenging sections as it climbs to a spectacular mountain panorama atop Searle Pass, 12,040'. The trail continues along Elk Ridge to a high point of 12,280' before descending to Kokomo Pass, 12,000'. Access to the Colorado Trail from one of three access points at Copper Mountain. Park in the Chapel parking lot to access the Colorado Trail where is crosses under the American Eagle chair lift (7.5 miles to Searle Pass). Limited parking is available at Union Creek where you follow the service road for a short distance to the intersection with the Colorado Travel. Be alert to stay on the Colorado Trail from Union Creek to Guller Creek as there are several confusing side trails. Access from the paved bike trail via Guller Creek was closed in 2001 to re-vegetate the area for wildlife habitat.
